Abhijit Ghosh is working to understand the physics of earthquakes, the processes that control them, and the hazards associated with them using seismology as a tool.
Ghosh eared his Ph.D. from the University of Washington in 2011.
Ghosh and his research group record and analyze seismograms (records of ground vibrations produced by earthquakes) to better understand and characterize earthquakes.
His team has pioneered work on slow earthquakes, a relatively new branch of earthquake science. Slow earthquakes are critical to understanding earthquake formation and estimating hazard. He has developed new techniques to detect, locate and track slow earthquakes in high resolution.
